Been here many times. My elderly in laws like it. In fact the place is always full of senior citizens. But with that said the food is really good. I love the fruit bread. I could eat a whole loaf. I've had the broasted chicken and it's awesome. Also the NY steak was very good.

Ah, Jovan's -- have I misjudged you? I went here years ago and had a very underwhelming food and service experience and I wrote them off. I was looking around Yelp! and saw some reviews that mentioned the fish and chips, and since moving I've been in the market for some new dining options. So, with expectations pretty low, we decided to try them for dinner. Their menu is not huge, but that's good -- they can focus on getting a dozen or so dishes done right. There appear to be daily specials, and everything is very reasonably priced. In a word, yum! Some other reviews mention the hot bacon dressing, and it is a winner. They love bacon at Jovan's -- even the clam chowder has bacon in measurable quantities. I'm not sure why you can't get it with your dinner and have to get it a la carte since it's the same price as a regular cup of soup, but I'm not going to complain. It was very good clam chowder. The fish was really good -- very sizable pieces done perfectly, with not too much breading. The dill tartar sauce was also righteous, and I'm not a tartar sauce fan. The ribs were very good, meaty and with a little bark but still tender. The only letdown was the mashed potatoes, which were right out of a box and tasted like Sign of the Beefcarver. It's a shame, the gravy looked homemade, with bits of meat in it. But overall, I was very pleasantly surprised. Jovan's is a big place, much bigger than it looks. There are two rooms (sort of three), with one on the other side of the entrance. The TV was a little louder than I'd like, but I ignored it and didn't ask for it to be turned down. This is, as others have noted, a place that skews very heavily to the geriatric set. They were moderately busy the night we went and I'd estimate the average age at about 70. But from my experience, that's probably more due to the fact that they are a great bargain and not because the food is bland. Jovan's, I'm sorry I never gave you another chance all those years ago. I will be back, and I will try some other selections.

If you're looking for gourmet, this is not your spot; however, the best fish and chips can be found right here. Crunchy, puffy pillows of crunch surround 4 large pieces of succulent cod that are cooked to perfection, coupled with hot, fresh, perfectly seasoned fries. Yummm! Just the right amount of batter and a crunch you won't soon forget! I sometimes go for the fish 'n chips with ribs combo to change it up. Plus, I also love the ribs. Another thing they do incredibly well here. Saucy, but not too much, meaty and not fatty, they are, in my humble opinion, just delightful! As is the fish. Oh yeah, did I mention it comes with 4 big pieces of fish, a generous amount of fries, really, really good coleslaw, and a bread basket all for $9.95?! A better deal cannot be found. You will not be disappointed. This one's for you Papa!!

Came in based on reviews and my mission to try new places but i truly wished i would have driven just 2 miles up the street. I ordered a steak, mashed potatoes to go. I was offered A1 sauce which is a big no-no. Got to my hotel and how i wished i would have taken the A1. The steak had ZERO flavor. The potatoes had no flavor. The only thing that saved them was a bit of gravy. Next time im going to have to go elsewhere for a proper steak. On the positive side the service was very friendly and welcoming.

First time here and, like many other writers have stated, the geriatric crowd is there mainstay. We first tried two appetizers; one was the fried mushrooms and the other was eggplant Parmesan from the specials menu. The mushrooms were fresh made and had a cornmeal coating on them but they lacked seasoning. A little bit of garlic & seasonings would've gone a long way on these. I enjoyed the eggplant Parmesan because it was sliced thicker and not overcooked & mushy and had a nice marinara sauce. My friend, however, disliked it for the same reasons. We ordered steaks off the specials menu (Delmonico and Filet Mignon) and although they were prepared correctly -MR- they were oddly dry. Perhaps as a result of using 'Select' beef instead of 'Choice' but that's just speculation. The homemade American fries were awesome. The coleslaw was a very good vinegar-based one with green peppers in it. The Strechatella (spelling?) soup was NOT what my friend's Italian grandma used to make but more of a chicken noodle type. The green beans were fresh, not canned, despite what they looked like and very good. Overall everything needed salt but when you consider their primary clientele you understand. We want to go back if for no other reason than the hot bacon dressing we heard about AFTER the fact. 3.5 stars is more accurate but I didn't have that option.

We celebrated Dad'd 60th Birthday at Jovan's today. Excellent food and even better service! The fish and chips and chicken piccata were so good...and the fried pickles were just awesome. We will definitely be back soon!

The descriptor "Fresh Cod" is listed under Fish & Chips and from the taste of it they live up to their promise. Not many places serve Fish & Chips this good for under $10 This is a Steak House but I have yet to eat the Steak. This is not a fancy place, but not shabby either. All the dishes I've had here have been mostly fish, it has almost always tasted above average and fresh. Don't forget to try the hot bacon dressing on your salad.

This is our second pleasant visit. The chicken pot pie was great! Served piping hot with big pieces of juicy chicken. AND friendly servers. Very nice.

I love this restaurant. They have daily specials that are so good they usually run out of them. The beef stroganoff is the best ever and sells out so fast that you have to call in the afternoon to reserve it for dinner. The chicken pot pie is better than homemade and their perch is fresh and delicious. The chicken picante is a favorite, too. Their steaks are very good, the filet mignon being my favorite, but the daily specials will have you coming back. Oooh! I almost forgot to mention the huge, tender city chicken! YUMM!!!

I've only been there once but I wasn't impressed nor would I go back (and its real close to my house). They need an update on the menu (everything seems to be fatty), and on the decor (late 70's/early 80's and not in a good way). It seemed to be a place where a lot of older people (again 70's & 80's) frequented, probably from the nearby neighborhood (because I'm not sure anyone would travel far to come here. Again I've only been once, so I have to be fair and give it at least 2 stars.

Limited menu. Food was good but nothing special. Service was ok. Staff could be a little better trained.

Went to this place for the first time about a week ago..it's defintley an older crowd here..which is fine just sayin. The menu was a bit limited, I had the ribs and fish combo, and it was really good. The batter on the fish wasn't to heavy which I like and the ribs had a good flavor. My mother in law had the orange roughy she said it was very good..hubby and father in law had the fish (Cod) everything tasted good.

Was a bit worried when we had reservations and the manager just said "sit down in the lobby, we'll get to ya". When we did get seated (after the whole party had arrived) the service was great and our waitress was a riot. Thought their special bread was delicious. 4 of us had the lake perch and it was OK, normal perch.the person that had the Chicken Piccata raved about it as well as the guy that got the ribs. The ribs were really good and others at surrounding tables said they loved the ribs and always got enough to take home. Guess that will be my pick next time
